The 2010 Class C Senior American Legion State Baseball Tournament at Tri County completed first round action today.  The double elimination tournament began on Friday, July 30^th and will run through Wednesday, August 4^th (August 4^th is a rain date). 

First round action on July 30^th began with the Area 4 District Winner David City versus the Area 5 District Winner Daykin-Meridian at 11:00 am.  David City downed Daykin-Meridian 5 – 0.  The winning pitcher was David Holland.  Taking the loss for Daykin-Meridian was Jonah Jordening.  Leading the offense for David City was Doug Daro with a single, a double and two RBI’s.

The Area 3 District Winner Mount Michael Knights then played the Area 6 District Winner St. Paul at 2:00 pm.  St. Paul won the game 4 – 2.  Mount Michael led 2 – 0 going into the bottom of the 6^th when Louis Poss hit a grand slam home run over the left field fence.  Mount Michael threatened with two runners in the 7^th, but could not score.

The Area 2 Champion Wakefield then faced off with the Area 7 Champion Alma at 5:00 pm.  Wakefield beat Alma 7-2.  Alma jumped to a two run lead in the 1^st, but Wakefield scored seven unanswered runs to take the victory.  Wakefield’s Mason Nixon came into the game in the second inning and shut down Alma’s offense.  Mason Nixon is reporting for active duty in the military on July 31^st so this was his final game appearance with the Wakefield team. 

The first day of State Tournament action ended with the Host Senior American Legion Team Tri County versus the Area 1 District Champion Creighton at 8:00 pm.  Creighton won in five innings 12 – 1.  Creighton pounded out seven hits including a two run home run by Caden Alexander.  For Tri County, Bodie Moeller had two singles, Anthony Rahe and Bennet Weise each had a single.

Games to be held on Saturday, July 31^st include Daykin-Meridian against Alma in an elimination game at 11:00 am, Mount Michael versus Tri County in the other elimination game.  Teams playing in the winners bracket include David City versus Wakefield at 5:00 pm and St. Paul squaring off with Creighton in the night cap at 8:00 pm.

The complete bracket with dates and times can be viewed by going to www.baseballtricounty.org.  The winner of the 2010 Class C Senior American Legion State Baseball tournament at Tri County will be crowned the Nebraska Class C State Champion and will then move on to the Class B Champion versus the C State Champion game to be held at the Class C Champion site on August 7^th.
