“Build the Grandstand” Dedication Held Grandstand Named for Gaylan Koch “Build the
Grandstand” dedication ceremonies were held at the
Tri County Legion Baseball facility (Cody Park –
Legion Field) on Saturday, June 19, 2010 at 7:30 pm.
During the ceremony, the colors were presented by American Legion Posts #212, #243, #258. Tri County student, Curtis Reynolds then sang the National Anthem. Awards were then presented to several volunteers and all Grandstand donors. ABCDE awards were presented to Jarred Meyer and Gene Roeber. ABCDE stands for Above and Beyond the Call of Duty and Expectations. Former Tri County graduate Jarred Meyer volunteered to draw up the building plans for the Grandstand project and Gene Roeber volunteered to install the siding, windows and other elements of the Grandstand. Well over 50 volunteers helped tremendously with the construction of the Grandstand. The “Build the Grandstand” Donor Awards were then presented. Twenty four individuals and families received certificates for donating at the “Booster” level. Eight families and individuals received plaques and certificates for donating at the “Home Run” level. The H.A. Damkroger Family was the only donor at the “Grand Slam” Donor level and received a plaque in recognition for their donation. The naming of the Grandstand followed the awards ceremony. The naming of the Grandstand had been kept secret for over a year and was revealed at the dedication. It was announced that the Grandstand/Press Box facility at Cody Park-Legion Field will forever be known as “Gaylan Koch Grandstand”. Gaylan Koch from DeWitt has been the Tri County Legion Baseball Committee representative from the DeWitt Legion Post #212 since the inception of Tri County Legion Baseball in 1994. Gaylan has served as the volunteer foreman for all major construction purposes at Cody Park-Legion Field since inception and has donated countless hours of construction knowledge and labor. “Cody Park – Legion Field would not be here in its current form if not for the leadership in the construction area that has been displayed by Gaylan Koch. Gaylan Koch has exhibited firsthand what volunteerism is all about and has been a difference-maker for this project since day one. Knowing Gaylan, he would not have accepted this honor if he’d known up front and is the reason the naming of the Grandstand was kept secret,” said Jeff Reynolds, President – Tri County Legion Baseball Organization, Inc. Following the naming of the Grandstand, “first pitches” were thrown out by Henry Damkroger Jr. and Gaylan Koch. The new grandstand and press box was near completion and operational in time for the Class C-4 District tournament that was held at Tri County for the first time ever in July 2008. The grandstand/press box is now completed and is a very welcome addition to Cody Park – Legion Field. The grandstand features bleacher seating with a covered roof that surrounds the backstop area. A press box was built on top of the roof and a public address system was installed. The grandstand and press box is a great enhancement to Cody Park – Legion Field and will aid in attracting future District and State level Legion Baseball tournaments. Tri County will be the host site for the 2010 Class C State American Legion Baseball Tournament July 31 through August 4, 2010. TCLBO, Inc. was formed in 1994 with a two-fold mission. The first was to bring Legion Baseball to the Tri County District and the second was to construct a field within the Tri County District. The first goal was accomplished by the establishment of the Junior and Senior Legion teams in 1995. The second goal of constructing a field (Tri County’s “Cody Park / Legion Field”) continues to progress. TCLBO, Inc. purchased ground ½ miles North of Tri County Schools in June of 1998. A “day field” was completed in 2000 allowing the Tri County Legion teams to start playing “home” games. The first ever home game was played on June 3, 2000. Lighting for the field was completed in 2006 with the first “night” game being played on June 25, 2006. This is a great accomplishment and has been a total community effort of DeWitt, Plymouth, Swanton and surrounding communities. The first three phases of the four phase project are complete and need to finish phase four to finalize the construction phase of the project. Remaining phase four items include a number of miscellaneous items. Donations for this project can be sent to Jeff Reynolds, PO Box 274, Plymouth, NE 68424. Businesses interested in purchasing an advertising sign at the field can contact Dave Bloomquist at 223-0117. Please call Jeff Reynolds at 656-3036 or Bill Waltz at 656-5755 for further information about this project. Donations to TCLBO, Inc. are tax deductible and greatly appreciated.
